2007 AROC 12 Hour Urban Adventure Race - Not A Pretty Girl

After having so much fun last year in the 2006 24 Hour AROC Urban Adventure Race I was keen to line up and compete in the 2007 AROC Urban Adventure Race. Bruce was also keen as I have talked him into doing the full geoquest this year and he wanted some AR practice longer than the 3 to 5 hour AROC short races. Eventually Danielle convinced Ben to join our team also with the promise that we would not break him.

We had a ball, the change in format to a plan your own adventure was a really great idea I thought, it made the racing more interesting, though it did allow teams to avoid doing legs they were no good at (such as kayaking). Maybe Tom and Al could think about insisting a certain number of points be gained in each discipline in the race to get people to all the disciplines a bit more next time around. I must say I loved the novelty controls this time around too, the team belended drink containing food stuffs starting with the letters L, M, T, R, V and S was interesting. Scrabble at Edgars was fun, the kids play place was a lo of fun according to everyone who went there. Of course eating two pizzas at Debacle for 200 points was again a great way to earn points.

Dave, Julie and Randall won over all with some impressive moseying around Canberra (including a 45 minute lunch break among other things). Results can be seen on the AROC website. Good job to Sarah, Meg and Dave on third placed Mixed too, good to see they beat Ian and co, the most important race of the day of course...

A team photo of Meg, Sarah and Dave just in case we went near a photo printer and were feeling generous.

And a photo of our team, Ben, Bruce and Steve, for the same purpose. In the end we got a printout of a team photo taken and printed at a camera shop.

Our first controls were going to be over at the Red Hill rogaine so we hopped on a bus first up, this is us at the bus stop.

And a bunch of other people with us.

Which he was.

Our bikes and some others as we are about to go foot rogaining.

Celia, Sally and Jason on Mt Majura, the fog can be attributed to my camera bag being a bit damp from the kayak leg and water having got in there somehow.

Spokey Dokes and a pink basket styling it up on one of Kylie, Edna or Holly's bikes. They did the race in Style.
