Bender Bicycles Steel MTB
After breaking my steel mtb in a
crash last year I went
and got the
frame
fixed
and have just retrieved the frame after painting. I intend to transfer the
components from my aluminium hardtail frame back to this one sometime over
the weekend. I am looking forward to having a steel mountain bike again.
I designed the sticker sheet myself, printed it up on a4 paper to check the
sizing and then gave them eps file to Alan Vogt of Wild Digital, he a fellow
mountain biker (and designer of the Six Pack, Gadget, Astro Boy, Shagwell, and
Purple Pickle outfits) got them printed on industrial sign quality vinyl (so
as to avoid bubbling or other problems under the lacquer coat) which is thin
enough that it works well for the frame stickers.
I suppose the Bender Bicycles is to further live up to my nickname "Bender"
among some of the Australian Mountain Bike fraternity, I already have a Bendy
Bender on my Duallie and have
purchased one to mount on this bike somewhere also.

Bender head tube sticker. I like that it came out somewhat understated
with the pink showing through the grey a bit. |

Closer shot of the primary down tube sticker, with the Bender figure in
front of the lettering. (This is on both sides of the tube) |

A custom sticker and paint job really does require a euro style custom
name sticker on the top tube, this shot also shoes the frame colour
fairly well. (this is on both sides of the tube) |

Though not particularly common on mountain bikes I thought it looked
cool to have the vertical bender and lettering on the seat tube facing
forward. The effect will be lost if I start putting a frame pump there
again though. |

And of course what would a Bender Bicycle without Bender's favourite
saying, Bite My Shiny Metal Ass (this is on both seat stays) |

I finished putting it together fairly late on Friday night, here is the
completed bike. |

It really looks a lot better in natural light, this is just before
heading out to take it for its first real ride. |

At sparrow hill, there is now dust on the bike after 25 KM of single
track. What an absolute joy this bike is to ride :) |

I also atached the new Bendy bender to the handle bars to compliment
the Bender stickers and be similar to my duallie. |
