Tallaganda Epic 02 Jan 2006

Alex in training for the XPD adventure race in Tasmania in February mentioned he could use a longer mountain bike ride somewhere interesting/remote. I suggested Tallaganda was a lot of fun and Andrew was keen for a ride too. Marea was out of town so we had missed out on the New Years Day Epic this year, which was probably a good thing as the weather was pretty hot and windy on Sunday. Monday dawned with overcast skies and light rain in Canberra which was good as the temperature was low enough to ride in comfortably again.

Andrew picked Alex and I up and we drove out to Tallaganda, up into the clouds and rain/mist. After a week or two of damn hot weather this was a welcome change, and we had a great day out on the mountain bikes in Tallaganda National Park. The ride ended up being 65KM, start time was around 9:40am, finish was around 4pm, ride time was around 4 hours.

We ran into a few of the strange private property signs that can be seen around Tallaganda from time to time, the most annoying of which was on Butmaroo Fire Trail, looking at the State Forests south coast map there is a little yellow triangle right in that section of park that the Butmaroo FT goes through the centre of. This is annoying as it is a major FT in the area and that the people who own that small section of land can keep people from walking/riding through it is a bit strange.

Alex pointed out there are not many photos of me taken with my camera so rode up the hill a bit to get one of me.
